Academic Support Services

The Department of Academic Support Services (DASS) is dedicated to equipping all students with personalized tools and techniques to create lifelong learners. Our comprehensive services are available for all general education courses, specifically those focused on reading, writing, and mathematics. These services are free to all students, staff, and alumni. Students may decide to access these services as a small group or one-on-one.

Our tutoring services are delivered by a team of experienced professionals and highly skilled peer tutors, who bring extensive experience from both secondary and post-secondary educational settings. Each academic lab鈥擬ath and English/Writing鈥攊s managed by a dedicated coordinator overseeing daily operations and supporting student tutors. Our staff is committed to building meaningful relationships with students while aiding them in mastering their Mathematical, English, and Writing skills.

In addition to the Math and Writing Coordinators, our team includes a Skills/Testing Lab Coordinator and a Learning Interventionist Specialist, ensuring a holistic, student-centered approach to the聽academic support journey. Our staff constantly seeks ways to collaborate with faculty and departments across the campus to deliver a well-rounded support system that addresses students’ educational, personal, financial, social, and emotional needs.

Students can access these free academic services in person Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Sarah Blocker Hall 101 (Writing) and 102 (Math)


Testing
P.E.R.T. Assessment
College Placement Testing聽

PERT is an online assessment that indicates what level of Math, English/Writing, and Reading a student places when entering FMU. Students who must take the PERT should estimate 1-3 hours for testing, depending on which exams they must take (Math, Writing, and/or Reading).

  • SAT scores equal to or greater than 24 for Math, 25 for Writing, and 24 for Reading
  • ACT scores equal to or greater than 19 for Math, 17 for Writing, and 19 for Reading
  • Official transcript showing successful completion of college-level English and Math (either transfer work, dual enrollment, AP scores, CLEP or the equivalent)
  • Completing the PERT exam(s) via Florida 久久精品福利资源 for Math, Writing, and Reading.
